1. What types of projects do you photograph?

HeroShots specialises in architecture, interiors, completed projects, commercial spaces and civic infrastructure.

We work with builders, architects, developers, interior designers and project stakeholders to create imagery that showcases quality, craftsmanship and design intent across residential projects, commercial fitouts, shopfits, hospitality venues, urban spaces and bespoke interiors.

2. Where are you based and do you travel?

HeroShots is based in Brisbane and regularly photographs projects throughout Southeast Queensland.

Travel is calculated from Lutwyche, Queensland and applied consistently across all projects. This provides a fair and transparent approach regardless of location, while allowing for additional site visits where required to capture a project across different lighting conditions, sun angles or stages of completion.

For selected projects, HeroShots is also available throughout Australia, New Zealand and internationally. Each opportunity is considered individually based on project requirements, timing and location to ensure we can deliver the level of service and attention every project deserves.

3. How does pricing work?

HeroShots separates the session fee from image licensing, allowing clients to pay only for the images they wish to use.

The session fee covers the planning and photography of the project, while image licensing reflects the selection and intended use of the final images.

This provides greater flexibility and control. ‘Project A’ may require a full day of photography and only a handful of final images, while ‘Project B’ may require fewer hours on site but a larger image selection. Separating these fees ensures each project is priced according to its actual requirements.

Every project is quoted based on scope, usage and stakeholder requirements.

4. Can multiple stakeholders share the cost of a project?

Yes — we recommend it!

Including multiple stakeholders in a project is often the most efficient and cost-effective way for builders, architects, designers and developers to obtain professional photography and image licensing.

Stakeholders can participate in a single photography commission and receive access to preferential licensing rates, helping reduce the overall cost compared to obtaining licensing after photography has been completed.

For example, a builder may choose to include the architect, interior designer, kitchen manufacturer, landscape designer or other project partners, allowing multiple stakeholders to benefit from a single photography commission.

5. Will we own the photographs?

Not quite — and that’s normal.

As with film makers, designers and other creative professionals, the creator retains copyright in their work. HeroShots retains copyright in all photographs, while clients receive a licence to use the images they select.

The good news is that HeroShots includes broad usage rights as standard, allowing clients to confidently use their images across websites, social media, marketing materials, award submissions and project promotion without the complexity often associated with commercial photography licensing.

This approach provides flexibility for multiple project stakeholders while keeping the licensing process straightforward and practical.

6. How long does a photography session take?

Our photography sessions are typically booked as:

Quarter Day — 2 Hours
Half Day — 4 Hours (Most Popular)
Full Day — 8 Hours

Most projects are best suited to a Half Day session, providing sufficient time to thoughtfully capture a range of spaces, details and perspectives throughout a project.

On rare occasions, smaller projects or targeted image requirements may be suitable for a Quarter Day session, while larger developments or projects requiring extensive coverage may warrant a Full Day.

Where photography is required across multiple lighting conditions and sun angles, we often recommend two separate sessions (sometimes across different days) rather than a single extended shoot to achieve the strongest visual outcome.

7. What are your lead times, and when can we expect the images?

Lead times for photography sessions are typically 1–2 weeks, although availability can vary throughout the year.

Following the photography session, clients can generally expect final edited images within approximately 10 business days.

Where available, expedited editing can be arranged for an additional fee, with delivery typically targeted within 3 business days.

8. Do you photograph people?

Occasionally.

People may be included to provide scale, context and a sense of how a space is used, however the primary focus remains the architecture, interiors and built environment rather than the people occupying it.

Where people are intentionally featured and are identifiable, a signed model release may be required. Responsibility for obtaining any necessary permissions or releases rests with the commissioning client.

9. Do you provide real estate photography and how does it differ?

No, sorry.

HeroShots specialises in architecture, interiors, completed projects and commercial spaces rather than residential property listings.

The value of a photograph is often determined by its purpose. Real estate photography is typically created to market a property for sale or lease over a relatively short period of time, whereas architectural photography is often used for years across websites, portfolios, award submissions, publications and project promotion.

As a result, architectural photography generally involves greater planning, attention to lighting, timing and image licensing to create photographs that showcase the design, craftsmanship and intent behind a completed project.

10. Can you help with awards, publications and marketing?

Absolutely.

Professional photography plays an important role in award submissions, publications, marketing campaigns and project portfolios.

HeroShots creates imagery that showcases quality, craftsmanship and design intent, helping clients present their work consistently across websites, social media, print and industry awards.

11. How should we prepare for the photography session?

For the strongest outcome, photography should be scheduled once the project is fully complete and presentation-ready.

This generally means final cleaning has been completed, with particular attention given to glazing and glass, power is connected, landscaping is finished, and temporary items such as building materials, defect stickers, site sheds, bins and fencing have been removed.

A well-prepared project allows the photography to focus on the architecture, creating stronger imagery that better showcases the quality, craftsmanship and design intent of the completed work.

12. Are there any other considerations before the photography session?

Yes.

The commissioning client is responsible for arranging any access, approvals or permissions required for the photography session.

This may include neighbouring buildings, rooftops, common areas, construction sites or other restricted locations that may assist in photographing the project.

Considering these opportunities in advance can often lead to stronger viewpoints and a more comprehensive set of final images.
